Does the Clinic accept my social health insurance coverage?
No, the Clinic does not offer services under social insurance coverage.

Does the Clinic accept my private health insurance coverage?
Patients with their own private health insurance can be seen at the Clinic as long as there is an agreement with the health insurance company. At present there are agreements in place with the following companies: Liberty Seguros, Colmedica, AIG Seguros de Vida, Suramericana and Seguros Bolivar.

What are the steps required to assure care coverage by my private insurance?
When asking for an appointment, it is important to mention that you want payment to be covered by private insurance and provide your ID number together with the number of your insurance agreement in order for us to request authorization and obtain information about the percentage that the patient must pay for.

The main difference between the two types of visits is the ophthalmologic examination: under the private modality, the ophthalmologic examination is performed directly by a specialist, whereas in the low-cost visit this examination is performed by resident physicians under senior supervision.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre la Consulta Privada y la Consulta Institucional?
La principal diferencia entre los dos tipos de cita está en la Cconsulta Ooftalmológica; en la Cita por Privada esta es realizada por los especialistas directamente, en la Cita Institucional la Consulta Oftalmológica es realizada por los médicos residentes bajo la supervisión de los facultativos.

Do I have to be seen by an optometrist in order to be seen by the ophthalmologist?
NO. As a private patient you may ask for an appointment with the ophthalmologist or only with the optometrist. Since the Barraquer Clinic is an ophthalmologic center, patients are offered comprehensive specialized care provided by a team of professionals. The ophthalmologists are responsible for the patient’s ocular health and they need to know the patient’s visual status before and after any form of treatment, either clinical or surgical; optometrists are in charge of examining the patient’s vision.

Does the cost of care depend on the treating doctor?
No. The cost of care does not change depending on the specialist that sees the patient. Rates are the same for all.

How much does a visit cost?
Private visits cost $198.000°° Colombian pesos divided as follows: $117.000°° Colombian pesos for the visit with the ophthalmologist and $79.000°° Colombian pesos for the optometry exam. Low-Cost Visits are available only for colombians.
