Ophthalmology Service

This service is organized by specialties in order to provide specialize patient care on the basis according to each individual case. The specialized departments include:
1. Anterior Segment: With 40 years of experience and five specialists, it includes different subspecialties: Cornea, Refractive Surgery, Crystalline Lens and Glaucoma. It is the center with the longest experience in Colombia in the areas of corneal transplants, refractive surgery and cataract surgery.

2. Ocular Reconstruction: With 25 years of experience and two specialists, this department has gained international recognition. Plastic surgeons, ophthalmologists and otolaryngologists have trained in this department in reconstruction of the orbit and the lachrymal system, eyelid plastic surgery, conjunctiva and orbital tumors.

3. Posterior Segment: With 33 years of experience and two specialists, this department offers at present state-of-the-art technology. Its excellent surgical results have made of this department the largest exporter of health services to patients in Central and South America. There are three Argon Laser machines and one Diode Laser, Digital Angiography, Optical Coherence Tomography, Laser Microperimetry and Electrophysiology.

6. Ocular Histopathology Ocular: With 33 years of experience and one specialist, this service has gained international recognition for its histopathology studies and it is a referral center for diagnostic verification in the world.

7. Paraclinical tests: the Clinic is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology for multiple non-surgical procedures.

Optometry Service

In the optometry area, eight full-time optometrists provide the following services: Refraction, Orthoptics and Pleoptics, Visual Fields, Subnormal Vision, Contact Lens Fitting, Orthokeratology and Ocular Prosthetics.

Surgery

The surgery complex houses the operating theaters as well as the wards. It comprises 4 microsurgery rooms, anesthesia and recovery room, one preparation room for the surgeons, sterilization area, surgical supplies store and deposit, two rest areas, one for the surgical nurses and another for the surgeons.
The operating rooms are specialized: two for Anterior Segment, Strabismus and Oculoplastic surgery with a Viewing Suite for direct observation of the procedures and a closed TV circuit for transmission to the Viewing Suites and the Auditorium. The third operating room is for Retina and Vitreous and another surgical room for Refractive Surgery.

The operating rooms are equipped with all the devices used for the specialized procedures performed in each.

Anterior Segment: Surgical microscopes with visor for the assistant surgeon and closed TV circuits with digital recording system. Connection panels for suction pumps, compressed air and cauteries. Micro-switch platform, for operating the different pieces of equipment, XY microscope motion, powered chair. Microphones for communications between the operating room and the viewing suite. Total-space sterilization system. State-of-the-art Phakoemulsification and Anterior Vitrectomy equipment.

Posterior Segment: Surgical microscopes with visor for the assistant surgeon, image inverter and posterior-pole broad-angle objective, closed TV circuit with recording equipment. Total-space sterilization system. State-of-the-art posterior vitrectomy equipment with phakoemulsification capability. Intra-ocular laser and thermal photocoagulation system.

Refractive surgery: This room is equipped with air conditioning and moisture–removal systems, total-space and equipment sterilization systems. There are 2 Excimer laser machines used for all the current Photoablation Keratomileusis techniques (LASIK, PRK, LASEK) and 5 microkeratome units.

In-Hospital Care

The Clinic has a capacity for 13 beds distributed in 10 single rooms and 3 fully-furnished apartments for high-quality care and comfort for our patients.

Each room has a private bathroom, Cable TV, ringer and special design for the visually impaired.

The apartments have, additionally, a separate sitting room for visitors in order to enhance patient comfort

Companion service can be accommodated both in the apartments as well as in the single rooms.

In-hospital care is provided by a highly qualified medical and paramedical staff charged with providing integral care to the patients and their families on a daily basis.

For patients coming from outside Bogotá or from other countries, the Clinic has signed agreements with the hotels in the area that offer special rates to our patients:
