1958 Foundation of the first Eye Bank in Colombia and Latin America

Dr. José Ignacio Barraquer Moner founds the Barraquer Clinic Eye Bank, becoming a pioneer in this field in the region. This initiative arose from the need for available corneas for transplantation and from Dr. Barraquer's vision to establish a structure that would guarantee quality, traceability, and ethics in tissue procurement.
